A lightweight multi-arch Docker image for iperf3, the network performance measurement tool, based on Alpine Linux.

⁠Quick Start

⁠Server Mode
docker run -d --name iperf3-server -p 5201:5201 -p 5201:5201/udp mm404/iperf3 -s
⁠Client Mode
docker run --rm mm404/iperf3 -c <server-ip>

⁠Usage Examples

⁠Basic TCP Test
# On server
docker run -d --name iperf3-server -p 5201:5201 mm404/iperf3 -s

# On client
docker run --rm mm404/iperf3 -c <server-ip> -t 30
⁠UDP Test
# On server
docker run -d --name iperf3-server -p 5201:5201/udp mm404/iperf3 -s

# On client
docker run --rm mm404/iperf3 -c <server-ip> -u -b 100M
⁠Common Options
  • -s: Run in server mode
  • -c <host>: Run in client mode, connecting to <host>
  • -p <port>: Server port to listen on/connect to (default 5201)
  • -t <time>: Time in seconds to transmit (default 10 secs)
  • -u: Use UDP instead of TCP
  • -b <bandwidth>: Target bandwidth in bits/sec (default 1 Mbit/sec for UDP)
  • -P <num>: Number of parallel client streams
  • -R: Run in reverse mode (server sends, client receives)

⁠Security

The container:

  • Runs as non-root user iperf
  • Is based on Alpine Linux for minimal attack surface
  • Receives regular security updates through automated builds (Renovate)
